Financial Aid & Scholarships
Sonoma State's Financial Aid Office provides information on tuition, fees, and how to apply for student loans and available grants.
All new and continuing degree program students planning to attend full-time (12 units undergrad, 8 units grad) for the 2020/2021 academic year with a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA are eligible. New incoming students must have applied to SSU for admission before they can apply for scholarships. All scholarship applicants must use their My SSU login user name and password to access the scholarship application.
What is needed to apply?
Step 1: Go to the University Scholarship Program Application page and carefully read through the application requirements listed. You will also find helpful information regarding the essay guidelines there.
Step 2: Complete the application. The link for the application is found at the bottom of the University Scholarship Program Application page. You will need to login using your MySSU username and password to access the application. You will be asked to do the following:
- Answer all the questions on the brief questionnaire.
- Upload a two-page essay (guidelines and tips are also provided on the University Scholarship Program Application page).
- Please note: Letters of recommendation are not requested.
You may complete your application over time by clicking “Save and Keep Editing,” but your application is not complete and will not be reviewed until you have clicked “Finish and Submit” at the bottom of the application.

Funding Opportunities for Graduate Studies
There are specific funding opportunities available to graduate students at Sonoma State University. These include the GA/TA Tuition Waiver Program and the Graduate Equity Fellowship. For more information, please visit the Graduate Studies Funding Website for more information.

The Dr. Maria Hess Humanidad Scholarship Fund:
For Clinical Mental Health Counseling students completing their traineeship at Humanidad Therapy & Education Services, a $2500 scholarship is available on a competitive basis. Please contact the Sonoma State Scholarship Office for more information.
