Tom Newell graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology in 1977. After working for three years at Mesa Vista Hospital as a Mental Health Worker, he completed his Master's degree in Marriage Family Counseling in 1982 and received his Marriage Family Child Counselor license in 1988. Tom has worked in a variety of Chemical Dependency Programs from Social Model settings to hospital based programs such as St. Mary's Hospital in San Francisco. He was a Health Program Manager for the Sonoma County Health Department for 19 years. While working for the Health Department he managed numerous programs in the Alcohol & Drug Division. His specialty was working with people in the criminal justice system and treating people with complex trauma with mental health and chemical dependency issues. As well as teaching at Sonoma State since the late 90's through the Extended Education Department, then in the Community Counseling Master's program. Tom currently works as a Clinical Supervisor at Santa Rosa Behavioral Healthcare Hospital supervising AMFT's and ASW's. Tom has a Private Practice in Sebastopol.
